We pledge to Image Gently for xray safety

Our office is constantly keeping up with the latest technology and the guidelines for its safe use. We take pride in using digital x-ray systems, and recently joined the Image Gently campaign. The Image Gently Alliance is a coalition of health care organizations dedicated to providing safe, high quality pediatric x-rays and imaging worldwide. By taking the pledge we are making the effort to make sure only the necessary x-rays are taken on each child and that we take the proper safety measures. We have child size sensors for comfort and use protective shields with thyroid collars. We also have the ability to adjust the amount of radiation being used for small children, as they do not need the same amount as an adult.  X-rays are one of the most important parts of your child's dental exam by allowing the doctor to check for cavities as well as evaluate a child's growth and development. With early detection and treatment if needed, we can ensure a much more positive experience for your child. If you have any questions, let us know the next time you come in!

Do kids really need to floss?

Do kids really need to floss?

As dentists, we are often asked….When should my child start flossing?  My answer is almost always – TODAY!!  Children should start flossing when their first two baby teeth touch, most commonly between the ages of 2 and 6 years old.  If you can’t see spaces between your child’s teeth, then it is time to pick up the floss.  As your child’s manual dexterity improves they will be able to floss on their own, usually around 10 years old.  In the meantime, floss your child’s teeth for them.  This will stress the importance of proper oral hygiene and reinforce a flossing routine at an early age.   The best way to encourage good flossing habits is to floss yourself as your child will want to mimic your healthy habits!
